Whilst the main focus of your fire protection strategy should be to prevent fire, should a fire accidentally break out, early automatic fire detection is essential to help contain the fire.  Fire detection systems provide the earliest possible warning of a developing emergency situation, which in turn, can facilitate safe and swift evacuation of people from the premises.

There are different types of fire alarm and detection systems and Opticom can design, supply, install and commission a fire alarm system to suit your needs.

Addressable Systems

An addressable fire alarm system is made up of a series of fire detectors and devices that are connected back to a central control panel. With addressable systems, each device has an address or location, enabling the exact detector that was triggered to be quickly identified. This makes addressable alarm systems ideal for large buildings, particularly commercial premises spread over a wide area. Some of our systems offer remote alerts in form of an SMS to a  designated phone number in the event of a fire breaking out.

Wireless Addressable System

A wireless fire alarm system is a system which is uses radio signals to transmit its signals from the devices to the control panel. It works the same way as  a normal hard-wired systems and is quick to install.

Conventional Systems

A conventional fire detection system uses fire detection zones which are  wired back to the main control panel. Each zone will identify a particular area of the building in order to identify the location of a fire.

Each zone can consist of various devices, including automatic smoke/heat detectors, manual call points, sounders and strobes. In the event of a fire being detected either automatically or manually, the system control panel will then operate the alarm. These systems are best suited for small to medium sized premises.
