Job Summary:
The Accounts Officer is responsible for authentication, allocation and integrity of financial accounts, schedules, plans and documentations in line with relevant ad hoc financial objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Finance Operations management:
- Manage company finances including timely monthly reconciliations, monthly reports and management analysis, VAT returns and the annual financial statements.
- Ongoing management of project accounting processes ensuring these processes maximize company’s financial outcomes.
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations at month end.
- As the bank agent, coordinate all banking transactions.
- Ensure all intercompany transactions are accurately posted.
Credit Control – Account Receivables:
- Ensure that debts are paid in a timely manner.
- Chase overdue invoices by telephone, email and letter within agreed timescales.
- Regularly making contact with customers to ensure all relevant debts are managed as necessary.
- Handle disputed bills and negotiate to bring payment within agreed terms.
- Ensure monthly processing of invoice deadlines are met as required.
- Send out monthly client statements/letters as may be agreed.
Debt Control Management – Accounts Payable:
- Ensure that purchase orders are correct and accurate in terms of pricing.
- Ensure that creditors accounts are reconciled, and creditors paid in good time.
Budget Management:
- Collaborate with department heads to develop annual budgets.
- Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis.
- Recommend adjustments to ensure financial goals are met.
Risk Management:
- Identify financial risks and implement strategies to mitigate them.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations and laws.
- Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets.
Annual Audit Management:
- Maintain records as appropriate for the audits and compliance as well as day to day use.
- Assist in preparation of annual audits and responding to queries raised by the auditors.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- Relevant professional certification (e.g., CPA, CFA) is preferred.
- Proven experience of at least 2 years as an accountant in finance & accounts department.
- Strong knowledge of financial principles, regulations, and reporting standards.
- Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced proficiency in financial management software and Microsoft Excel.
- Should have a good track record of unquestionable integrity.
- Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work as part of the team and build relationships with others within the organization.
